Bright aluminum up-locking reel seat over a mortised Walnut spacer
The cap bears the Payne trademark stamp as well as the “Sold by Abercrombie & Fitch New York” stamp dating it to pre-1963 (the first Payne Parabolic rods were made in 1936)
Right hand retrieve although the spring is fairly neutral so it could be fished as a lefty as well
For sale here is a very rare Orvis Presentation Rod Set also known as the "Rocky Mountain Twin Set"
Original bag and tube with the Orvis data sticker
RL Winston Bamboo Fly Rod 7' 2/2 #4 2 Weight Bright aluminum up-locking reel seatA nice RL Winston bamboo fly rod, 7', 2 piece, 2 tips, built for a #4 line. Serial # 2600. The owner's name and weight are inked on the rod, the latter at 2 5 8 ounces (though my scale has it closer to 3. 4). Oven tempered cane done in a three up node pattern. As with all of the Montana Winston rods, the varnish is fantastic, right up there with the very best of the best. The wraps are tan with cinnamon edges at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops.
