Description

Ernst Lorenzen was a forester/naturalist from Denmark and Alma an Acadian from Cocagne

I can't help but think of him as a portrayal of righteous hypocrisy--perhaps representing a puritanical late 17th century minister crying witchcraft

The vase is signed Pottery Craft USA on the side near the base

I am not sure if it was Jim Stubbs himself

I purchased the piece at an wonderful estate sale that included a number of fine woven textiles as well as an eclectic collection of notable modern and contemporary art and design objects from around the world

Painted Chip Carved Antique Tramp Art Double Frame white brick house Ernst Lorenzen was a forester/naturalistThis early 20th century tramp art frame is as much a sculptural object as a functional one, and with a reverse side as good as the front! I really like the combination of strong straight lines on the black painted structure with the unpainted zig zag chip carved decoration inside and in between; sharp and folky at once. Quite beautifully and concisely constructed, with nice old nails at each point where the black painted pieces meet. 12 7 8" l x 10" t
