Antique Young Postal Carrier Occupational Quarterplate Tintype sushi plates I found this old carved

I found this old carved shorebird in New Hampshire this week and just thought it really beautiful

and there's even some darkening to the bottom as if heated over a stove

It may be at a later point that it was painted gold--but all the better as a symbol for American consumerism

Nothing appears to be broken or lost

I'm not much one for die-cut faces

This guy is one of those. I take this as an occupational portrait, and though I'm not completely certain I presume he's a mail carrier, with his cap perched at his side atop his satchel, and a roll of papers just to the left of that. Both rest atop what looks to be hand painted
