Description

Just a couple of matchstick bits missing from the chimney

Details make surface look somewhat lighter than it is

but they are near black and in very good shape

A girl so very much after my own heart--I completely adore her

And most of all I love a wonky one--this one even wonkier in person than photos convey

Horse and Jockey, 19th C. Ink Drawing on Watermarked Lined Paper, Fred Scruton, Beverly MA gift for the cook Just a couple of matchstickI went to Cohoes, NY to find this one, but it originated in my neck of the woods, on the North Shore of Boston, in Beverly NY. Reminds me in many ways of Spencerian calligraphic drawings, but folkier, and I especially love the handling of the jockey's face, with all those tiny ink dots making it look almost as if he were wearing a mask or that much of his face were covered in stubble, which lends a bit of eeriness to the drawing in an interesting sort
