These are from a group of wonderful old handmade animals I found this past weekend in New Hampshire (and splurged a bit on as I think they're pretty special)--I believe from a Noah's Ark set

Full Plate Tintype pottery basket Scratches and dings to theStriking to see a young man with a lost eye uncovered by a patch, and the combination of it, together with his pinked cheeks and very oversized coat make him seem both deeply vulnerable but also somehow protected. (The very wide sleeves and extra long arms of that coat keep making me think of Joseph Beuys' felt suits.) To my eye there is also a sense of the surreal about it, with the fringe on the arm of the chair feeling of another (David Lynch ian)
