It's a fairly rare one I believe dating to the 1930s or so

but I think likely early 1980s

Loss and darkening to the paint as evident

holding completely tight and sturdy as can be

I just had the thought that maybe H Manning was a magician and this was a trick box

(His very animating spring tail, which I've not seen before, would make him very engaging at the check out counter!)
