We know little of the artist and cartographer, save for the fact that he did a handful of maps and those have all revolved around the Californian city of Monterey. There is a familiarity with the subject matter that seems to be from a local's perspective, with not only the streets and roads denoted, but also where good hunting and trout fishing could be found.
